His first crash

My son and I spend most of our free time at the Knoxville Sk8t Park but his mom almost put a stop to that because of my son's very competitive nature. Our second trip to the sk8t park also resulted in a trip to Childrens Hospital. Hub had been watching some older boys doing some tricks and jumps and decided that it didn't look so difficult. He proceded to try a transfer from the 4ft bowl into the flow bowl. Below is the result:

With a concussion and his top two front teeth missing he actually came out pretty well considering the fall he took. The Dr. said it could have been much worse had he not been wearing his helmet. This happened on a Thursday and he was back at the sk8t park on Sunday after evening church service, although, mom wasn't thrilled about the idea. Now when trying new tricks Hub wears his full face helmet.

The Beginning

I guess to begin with an explanation of the title to this blog would help. About two years ago my wife and I decided that as a christian family we had an obligation to perserve God's world. We started by recycling, changing the lights in our house to energy efficient flourecent bulbs, and changing our heat from LP gas to high efficency electric heat pumps. At that time my main hobby was riding atv's and one day while driving home from work I passed a local bike shop that had a neon sign in the window that read " Burn Fat Not Oil". It occured to me that the hobby I was so fond of wasn't very environmentally friendly. I came home and listed my atv on craigslist that evening and when it sold I went out and bought my entire family bicycles. Now my favorite pastime is going to the Knoxville Sk8tPark or doing some urban assault riding with my son or riding a local greenway with the whole family.

Dad's ride: Custom Diamond Back Accomplice

Mom's ride: Electra Townie Art 21 speed

Hub's ride: custom Haro Partial 16

Tater's ride: Giant Taffy
Screecher and MoJo's ride: Na Buggy

My hope is to use this blog to share my family's bicycling experiences and the fun we have going "green".
